River adventure trail

Discover the unique natural surroundings along the Großache! The river adventure trail proceeds along the banks of the Großache between Kirchdorf and Erpfendorf, and provides lots of viewing platforms, display boards and sandy coves. The route length is 3.5 km and is an example of the fact that safety of people and concessions to the species-rich natural surroundings doesn’t have to be a contradiction.

The display boards provide information about the flood protection project in Kirchdorf and its positive consequences for the environment, which enhances the well-being of people and the natural surroundings in a unique manner. The viewing platforms make it possible for uninterrupted observations to be made, while rest points and benches provide rest and relaxation and children have lots of space to play in the sandy coves.

A superb flora and fauna awaits! Branches and tarns provide a new habitat for the many water dwellers, including grass frogs, yellow-bellied toads, stone flies and blackfly larvae. Along with rainbow trout there are lots of graylings and brown trout, as well as long vanished fish, including chub, minnow, stone loach and rudd in the river. The gravel banks, which are only slightly vegetated, are a habitat for the rare sandpiper, white-throated dippers and mallards which prefer to be close to the water, a goosander can be spotted quite often too. All stations of the river adventure trail are easily accessible by bike and on foot.
