Tavonaro Cross

The impressive Tavonaro Cross on the Stripsenjoch in the Kaiser Mountains is a wonderful place, full of power. It gets its name from the wonderful cross created by Johann Tavonaro. Hans Tavonaro was the first inn landlord in the Stripsenjochhaus. He was a keen mountaineer himself and to mark his 150th tour to the Totenkirchl, he set up a cross on the Stripsenjoch. By 1910 he had climbed the Totenkirchl 200 times. He set up the cross on the Stripsenjoch to mark over one hundred tours he had made in the Wilder Kaiser. Tavonaro was the first to conquer the main summit of the Predigtstuhl.
