Mountains Aflame - Summer Solstice
Summer solstice in the St. Johann in Tirol region!
Every year, when the Summer solstice is celebrated, the mountains in the St. Johann in Tirol region are aflame. At ‘Feia brenna’ (burning fires), as it is known in these parts, the summits of the Wilder Kaiser, Kalkstein, Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge and the Kitzbüheler Horn are lit up. Hundreds of mountain fires are lit in the mountains. This spectacle is both mysterious and magical. The fires are kindled to intensify the power of the sun and to keep evil away from people and animals.

The shortest night of the year is celebrated at the summer solstice. At dusk hundreds of fires are lit on the summits of the mountains and these snake across the mountain summits like a chain of lights. Be whisked off into a realm of magic for an evening. When visibility is good, you get to enjoy the loveliest views from the Harschbichl mountain station to the surrounding mountains. Since the St. Johann in Tirol cable car provides special journeys on the Harschbichlbahn for the night, you get to float in comfort up to the Kitzbüheler Horn.
