The mountain pine, German: ‘Bergkiefer’ (Pinus Mugo), also known as the ‘Latschenkiefer’ (shortened form ‘Latsche’), ‘Legföhre’, ‘Legkiefer’ or ‘Krummelholzkiefer’, is a coniferous plant from the Pinaceae family.

This aromatic oil is made from the needles and branches of the mountain pine directly beneath the summit of the Kaiser mountains. Anna Hofmann (born 1909) foudned the Latschenbrennerei. She was involved with the making of products from 1933 to 1974 under the "Kaiseradler brand". This tradition has now continued for 4 generations.
