From Altmühl follow the signs to the Stubenalm. You first hike along a narrow gravel path, then through a forest. After the forest you cross an alpine meadow on a narrow path until a forest road leads you to the Stubenalm. The alpine pasture serves snacks from its own farm such as bacon, mountain sausage, cheese and bread. After the small, peaceful hamlet with the alpine huts, follow the path across alpine pastures up to the Schnappenalmen. If someone of the Lower Schnappenalm is present, they serve drinks and small snacks. After the Upper Schnappenalm, you have a wonderful view of the Kaiser Mountains at the summit cross of the Schnappen (1,546 m). You continue hiking, always slightly uphill and downhill over a ridge until you finally reach the Schnappenstein (1,490 m). From the small chapel you can see until Walchsee and the Chiemgau Alps.
You hike back along the same route as far as the Stubenalm. After the Stubenalm take the hiking trail to the Foischingalm. At the hut, you can buy cheese or a cold drink (self-service fridge) before returning to your starting point down the valley.
