This tour starts at the information office in St. Johann in Tirol, Poststraße 2. We walk towards the Hotel ‘Bruggwirt’ and turn right into Gasteiger Straße. The Ache follows us as it babbles along. After the subway, we keep left and look out for the yellow hiking signs indicating the direction to the hermitage. Our path leads us past the settlement of ‘Bernstätten’ and the path now climbs gently uphill. We reach the hermitage via a short, crisp dirt track and then a forest road. The hermitage - Maria Blut - is a place of power, so we can take a short breather here and enjoy the wonderful view of St. Johann in Tirol and the surrounding mountains. Our next point is the Rummlerhof, which we reach via a varied field, forest and root path. Surefootedness is particularly important on the fast-paced downhill section! At the end of the field path, we take a short section of tarmac to get past the Rummlerhof to the ‘Maurernhof’. From there, we are led back onto a pleasantly soft forest path that takes us through romantic forests and moors.
The Römerweg takes us gently downhill back to ‘civilisation’ and after we reach the first settlements again, we keep an eye out for the ‘Blumbergweg’, as this narrow path along the Rettenbach stream takes us directly to the crossroads, where the ‘Fahrzeit’ garage can also be found. We cross the road and continue our walk along the Ache until we reach our starting point again.
