Tour information

The tour starts in the center of Oberndorf and takes you via the hamlet of Sperten to St. Johann in Tirol. You get a particularly beautiful view of the lively market town by cycling around the center via the Rettenbach and Hinterkaiser districts.
Once you reach the Großache river, cycle towards Kirchdorf and on to Erpfendorf. Between Kirchdorf and Erpfendorf is the River Adventure Trail with lots of interesting facts about the river and its creatures. Follow the signs to Erpfendorf, an underpass takes you onto Burgstraße and into the center. You pass the modern Clemens-Holzmeister church and reach Rosenbühelweg via Schleiffergasse. You will soon reach the “Parking lot 1 Griesbachklamm”, where you can conveniently store your bikes in bike boxes. Use your own bike lock to secure the box.

Follow Griesbach river to the entrance of Griesbachklamm gorge and enjoy the natural setting away from houses and roads. The trail then takes you into a magnificent ravine with steep rocky walls and a river running through it. Shortly after entering the gorge, you will get to a 26-meter long suspension bridge that hangs about 4 meters above the river. Parts of the trail consist of wooden boardwalks that run just above the Griesbach. After a second suspension bridge the trail branches off to the right and leads past a roaring waterfall. The next section is more peaceful with the sound of the water gurgling and splashing behind. The trail then climbs steadily to a second waterfall where you find wide valley with sand bars to rest and play on. The hike continues past the sand bars and through the narrowing valley to a crossing. Make a right into the gorge and continue to a forest road. Follow this road for about 900 meters to the entrance of Jägersteig, a narrow path that winds its way through a shady forest to Angerlalm (1102 m). Pick up the agricultural road to the bog pond and make a right onto the trail to Huberalm (1080 m). Just before the mountain hut there is a great vista point on Huberhöhe (1146 m). You hike over the Jägeralm back to Erpfendorf.

A little tip: After the hike, you can visit the Kneipp facility!

Cycle back to St. Johann in Tirol on the same route. This time, however, you choose to continue your bike tour right through the lively town center, past the baroque parish church. Via Speckbacherstraße you reach the Roman road to Oberndorf. Once you arrive in Wiesenschwang, it is not far to the center of Oberndorf, your starting point.
