Rules of behaviour for winter hikers

  • Complete equipment: Adapt your equipment to the respective tour = e.g. low rucksack weight, rain, cold and sun protection,

  • Suitable footwear: When choosing footwear, make sure it fits perfectly, has a non-slip tread sole, is waterproof and lightweight.

  • Sure-footedness: Winter hiking trails are easy to walk on but require sure-footedness on snow and ice. The changing snow conditions during the day (powder snow, firn, harsch, slush, etc.) must be taken into account.

  • Careful planning: Plan your time well to avoid getting caught in the dark. Be sure to check weather forecasts and temperatures! Sudden snowfall, fog, wind, etc. increase the risk of accidents.

  • Regular breaks: enjoy the scenery and the peace and quiet of nature and take a break in good time. Isotonic drinks are the ideal thirst quencher.

  • Respect for nature and the environment: stay on the marked trails, avoid noise, do not leave any rubbish behind, leave plants untouched, do not disturb wild animals and respect protected areas.

  • Stay on marked trails: Avoid shortcuts and stay on the signposted and prepared winter hiking trails. In pathless terrain, the risk of losing your bearings and falling increases.
