The St. Johann in Tirol Museum is located in the town center behind the deanery parish church in two houses connected underground. In the 18th century, these served as a reformatory for sinful priests.

Several extraordinary attractions for all generations make you want to visit the museum. The exhibition focus on the Kaiser Mountains and the audio tours with smartphones in three languages are particularly popular.

As a sensual place of wonder, the St. Johann Museum is a place for journeys of discovery with exciting stories: the roaring cave bear “Grim”, the terrarium with the legendary green earthworms, the prehistoric finds from the Tischofer Cave, the world-famous children’s symphony by Edmund Angerer, the rare scorpion from the Kaisergebirge, the legendary woman Emma in Europe, the talented poodle “Schmecks”, the Hakenkreig in the Kaisergebirge or the “mountain tour in the museum” to the Babenstuber hut with a view of a lifelike mountain model as if from the stratosphere... These are just a few of them many lasting impressions of a museum visit.

The museum is not only a welcome destination in bad weather, but there is also a lot to discover in the historic building with its pleasantly cool rooms on hot days.

The individual exhibition themes can be experienced via an audio tour with your cell phone in German, English and Italian.

Exhibitions of contemporary art are presented in the gallery on the upper floor. The St. Johann in Tirol Museum and Cultural Association will be presenting a top-class exhibition with works by the internationally renowned artist Ahmet Oran from July 18, 2024. For many years Oran has occupied a position characterized by independence in Austrian painting.
