Sustainability in the region Hohe Salve

Ecological footprint in the Kitzbühel Alps

Sustainability is a multi-faceted concept these days. However the term ‘sustainability’ is omnipresent in our day-to-day lives. Although the word is constantly all-around, no clear-cut definition is available. Potentially it might be understood as "doing the right thing". And it is precisely that which want in the Hohe Salve region too. On this site you will find all the key aspects that we in the tourist industry regard as our environmental duty. Even tourism growth needs a re-think and sustainability is regarded as a link between people, nature and the economy for the benefit of all those involved.

What makes the tourist association

for more sustainable tourism?

The Hohe Salve region is dedicated to promoting a more sustainable tourism sector and with that a more environmentally and socially compatible development of the region. We demonstrate commitment to sustainability with a variety of measures. The spectrum ranges from internal optimisation processes, which enhance energy efficiency and spare resources, to pioneering initiatives, including the installation of photovoltaic facilities at farmhouse buildings. The goal of tourism and environmental protection going hand in hand , will not only be achieved through environmentally responsible measures, but also through projects including the "Hohe Salve market", which promotes regional produce and added-value. The promotion of sustainable arrivals and mobility on site, along with the awareness-raising and training of partners and businesses, highlight the Hohe Salve region’s aspiration to be a role model for sustainable, quality tourism.

Behind the scenes

The Hohe Salve region is already following internal optimisation in terms of sustainability. Measures include increasing energy efficiency, waste avoidance and sparing resources. Sustainability is crucial as part of in-house processes, since they promote long-term efficiency, cost saving and ensure a positive reputation. Through environmental and socially responsible processes, not only is environmental impact minimised, staff motivation is enhanced and community consolidated. A sustainable orientation of interior procedures secures long-term success and contributes to the future sustainability of the tourist association.

    Sustainable commitment for accommodation providers

In the Hohe Salve region special measures for accommodation providers are implemented with regard to sustainability.

As well as sustainability coaching free rubbish stickers are made available which can be used on rubbish baskets in rooms and apartments. These stickers ought to make it easier for guests to separate rubbish and are an indicator of the statutory importance placed upon rubbish separation in Austria.
Our wood holiday planner displays are made here in the region and made available for our accommodation providers. In order to draw the attention of guests staying in our region to our healthy water which is of drinking water standard , we have produced our own "drinking water signs" . These can also be displayed in rooms and apartments.

The measures highlight the region’s endeavours to make our guests aware of rubbish separation, to enjoy "drinking water from the tap" and protect the natural environment.

  • Sustainable field service

Our field providers always work sustainably

The region’s field providers are dedicated to the maintenance of hiking and cycling paths, as well as the creation of rest points, benches and bike stands made from ash wood along these paths.

The wood benches were made by staff in field services themselves and the wood is always obtained regionally from forest areas in the Hopfgarten district in Brixental .

In so doing we are seeking to minimise the effects on the environment and protect the natural surroundings . These measures reflect the focus on environmental protection and community development , while simultaneously preserving the beauty and functionality of the hiking and cycling paths for visitors .

Photovoltaic facilities in Wörgl

Farmstead in the Hohe Salve region

The Hohe Salve region tourist association has started a pioneering initiative: The installation of photovoltaic facilities at farm buildings in Wörgl.
This environmentally friendly measure ensures sustainable energy production, reduces carbon dioxide emissions and lowers operating costs. It is important to us to show commitment to renewable energy, to enhance the regional environmental footprint and encourage environmental responsibility.

Photovoltaic facilities demonstrate how tourism and environmental protection can go hand in hand, by switching the region to clean energy and having a positive effect on the community.

Sustainability strategy

As the tourist association for the region Hohe Salve it is our aim to be a paragon and initiator for sustainable, high-quality offers. It is our mission to raise awareness for the wide-ranging theme of sustainability, have a positive influence on tourist consciousness and with that enhance quality of life in the Kitzbühel Alps .

In summer 2021 we started the project group "Sustainability" and "Habitat Management in the Kitzbühel Alps". It quickly became clear that the theme was too large to handle alone. Since 2022 we have also implemented workshops for tourist associations, districts, participants etc., in which measures for the region were substantiated and their implementation planned. The Hohe Salve region thereby operates as an adviser, expertise provider for partner businesses, connecting link between various platforms including tourism and agriculture, mobility etc. and initiates ideas and marketing expertise.

Green Events

In the region Hohe Salve, self-organised events take place in the guise of ‘Green Events’. These events integrate the environmental, social, economic and cultural aspects of sustainability while reducing environmental impact, sparing resources and strengthening the local economy . The 2023 events have already been geared towards criteria of Green Events Basic .

So what are Green Events?
The programme developed by Klimabündnis Tirol and Tiroler Umweltverband "Green Events Tirol" supports local organisers in sustainably planning their events. Free advice and evaluation are part of the programme that is financially supported by Land Tirol. Klimabündnis Tirol, as the biggest communal climate protection network in Austria, coordinates the project and implements local climate protection initiatives.
These initiatives consolidate the Hohe Salve region’s commitment for sustainable events and contributes to the promotion of environmental awareness and regional development.
