Rustic farms, deserted mountain peaks and true Tirolean hospitality await you! The valley of Kelchsau branches out at the end of the small village into Langer Grund and Kurzer Grund. These two branches can be reached via a toll-road and lead deep into the side valley to the starting points for the most scenic hikes and to rustic Alpine lodges. Hikes and ski tours up to the highest peaks of the Kitzbühel Alps, which lead all the way to the border to Salzburg, can be tackled there. From the summits you also keep catching views of the two neighbouring valleys, Windautal and Wildschönau.

The history of Kelchsau

The village has a long history of mining, in particular copper, sulphur pyrite, pale ore and later also pebbles for glass production. The family was wealthy and charitable, building workers' houses, a mill with a bakery and a sawmill. Nevertheless, the family's church building initiative had to be cancelled due to financial difficulties and the glassworks was closed in 1880.

A school was built relatively early a school was established in Kelchsau. In 1780 there was already a schoolroom in the Misslingerhof by the village chapel. In 1852 the first school building was built. Kelchsau has had a chapel since 1720 "Maria Hilf" chapel in the upper village and a church in the lower village since 1850. Today, Kelchsau offers visitors the opportunity to experience unspoilt nature, be it on mountain tours, mountain biking or a relaxing stay in this charming Tyrolean village.
