Eisstockschießen im PillerseeTal
The traditional sport of curling keeps the PillerseeTal moving even in frosty temperatures and captivates young and old. We visited the curlers during training and were convinced of the fascination of this sport.
This sport has centuries of tradition in PillerseeTal and ranks as a veritable national pastime. Until a few decades ago, this icy fun was reserved for men, but today most towns and villages also have women's teams. The sport features two teams ("Moarschaften") trying to slide their ice stocks from the playing line ("Stehmatz") as close as possible to a wooden cube ("Hasei"). It’s not often guests get such a good chance to get an insight into the Tirolean soul as with ice stock. Watching and listening can, if you understand the Tirolean dialect, be highly entertaining. But of course it’s more interesting to try try it yourself on one of the ice stock rinks in Fieberbrunn, Hochfilzen, St. Jakob in Haus, St. Ulrich am Pillersee and Waidring.
