From the village centre of Hochfilzen you walk in the direction of the church. In the pilgrimage church Maria Schnee you will find the baroque year-round nativity scene with various scenes from the life of Jesus Christ. Opposite the church, walk along the winter hiking trail "Herrengasse" towards Warming. To the left and right of the path are the perfectly groomed cross-country trails of the Hochfilzen Nordic centre, providing a first impression of the wonderful cross-country skiing conditions in the region. After the subway, cross the road and follow the winter hiking trail to the left parallel to the cross-country ski trail to former Gasthof Wiesenseehof. The trail continues along the foot of the Steinberge mountains to the Wiesensee lake. The small lake sometimes disappears under a blanket of ice and snow, but its water usually glistens in the sunlight! From here, you hike along the valley cut in the direction of St. Ulrich am Pillersee. In the district of Schwendt, the view becomes wide again. The Steinberge mountains still accompany the tour, the Buchensteinwand with the Jakobskreuz appears. And here, too, you can see the well-prepared cross-country trails to the left and right of the path, which many cross-country skiers like to use. The Gasthof Strasserwirt invites you to stop for a bite to eat before taking the ski bus back to Hochfilzen.
Alternative: from Schwendt via winter hiking trail no. 23 towards the centre of St. Ulrich am Pillersee (approx. 30 min.) or via trail no. 24 through the hamlet of Flecken to the valley station of the Pillersee cable car (approx. 20 min). The chairlift takes you comfortably up the mountain and to the largest accessible summit cross, the Jakobskreuz.
The return journey in both cases is by ski bus to Hochfilzen.
