Karin

The adventurous bike guide from St. Johann in Tirol

play_arrow

Karin Exenberger lives in Oberndorf in Tirol with her husband Kurt and their two lively sons, Lucas and Lenny. In their freetime, sporting activities are a must for the family: in Summer hiking through the gorge, going to the waterfall or to the swimming pool. In Autumn going up the mountains and climbing. But Karin's favourite activity is biking...

Living (and teaching) the mountain bike spirit

Together with her husband Karin runs the mountain bike school Bikeacademy in St. Johann. They please their guests with guided tours, riding technique training and bike camps. With special children's camps and youth camps, they pursue the philosophy of getting children away from the screen, getting them moving and into nature.

What's so great about guiding? The participants motivate each other and a great spirit develops. In the end, everyone is happy about their big and small successes - regardless of whether it's raining or the sun is shining!

Bike-Guide Karin private

Growing up on the mountain, away from the village centre, Karin became familiar with a bicycle at an early age. The steep ascent to her house is perhaps one reason why the bike enthusiast prefers to ride downhill rather than uphill. Luckily, there are enough lifts in the Kitzbüheler Alpen - and even more trails for every downhiller's taste!

For Karin, the fascination of trail riding lies in the numerous challenges along the way. "I have to work out the passages, but I can switch off. Only one thought counts: what obstacle will I encounter next and how do I master it?" The exhiliration is all the greater when she has completed a trail without having to dismount once. As a reward, there's coffee and cake, which taste even better after a successful trail ride.

Wanderlust versus love of home

Karin loves foreign countries and cultures. She has already travelled a lot in her life, worked as a flight attendant and lived in big international cities. But since she has returned to Tyrol because of her love for her native home, she appreciates it here. The good, regional food, the lakes and mountain peaks - and all the memories that are hidden in them.

"I just feel safe here. It's a little paradise where others go on holiday. There are so many possibilities for leisure activities in the Kitzbüheler Alpen. It just never gets boring." Karin is happy to live in the countryside, where there are not too many large gatherings of people, where everything important is close by and a car isn't necessary. Here she can best realise her motto in life: Live! Love! Laugh!

Karin's profile

  • checkMy power place in the Kitzbüheler Alpen ... the forest. I can really recharge my energy there.

  • checkWhat makes my native home special ... the beautiful grassy mountains of the Kitzbüheler Alpen – and directly opposite the rugged Wilder Kaiser mountains. Add to that the open-minded people in the Tyrolean lowlands.

  • checkWhat is my emotional connection to the Kitzbüheler Alpen and why ... I grew up n the Kitzbüheler Alpen and learned all the important sports that a Tyrolean should be able to do as a child. I have always been at home in the mountains. That's enough emotional attachment. I have seen a lot of the world and still love to travel. However, I still feels most at home in the Kitzbüeler Alpen.
