The ambitious former amateur racing cyclist from the Hohe Salve holiday region
play_arrow
Alois Kronthaler grew up on a farm on the Erlerberg. There was only one way for him to get out into the wide world: the bicycle and get away. That's how Alois began his personal path to freedom as an eight-year-old boy. On his city bike, he was soon conquering the peaks of the Kitzbüheler Alpen day after day.
Currently, Alois heads the engineering department in a large pharmaceutical company and is himself the father of a young daughter. By the time he has arrived at his office, he has already completed 1,000 metres of altitude on his bike, regardless of the weather! This is the perfect balance for work and the passionate fresh-air enthusiast.
Any reason not to do sport? No, in the Hohe Salve holiday region with its sheer endless possibilities to exercise, there are none. Alois is convinced of that.
Cycling means satisfaction
Alois first discovered mountain biking for himself and just got better and better at it. Later, he was captivated by road cycling. Both have their appeal for the young father. On his road bike, he even benefits from the technique and coordination he acquired while trail riding.
The beauty of road cycling is the speed with which you cover huge distances and that you are agile and travel light. With mountain biking, it is the intense concentration on the downhill trail that clears the head and allows you to forget all the stress.
Alois gets out on his bike at least six times a week, preferably alone. Here he finds peace and tranquility and, depending on how he feels on the day, can really let off steam. What remains at the end is satisfaction. Yes, Alois Kronthaler is exactly where he wants to be: in the Kitzbüheler Alpen.
From student to coach
Once active in the club himself as an amateur racing cyclist, Alois has since switched roles. Because he loves his hobby so much, he is now in addition to his regular job as a certified trainer and cycling instructor for the young talents of the local cycling club - RC Arbö Wörgl responsible. The club's successes are impressive. In 2015, road cyclist Felix Gall became the first Austrian world champion in road racing in the junior class in Richmond, USA.
Local, regional, sustainable - out of conviction
Not only to sport but Alois was also born with a connection to nature and the region. For example, regional food is particularly important to him while cycling is an essential step away from cars and exhaust fumes for him too. Even his beloved bike comes from a regional "bicycle manufacturer". That is sustainability lived out of passion and conviction.
Alois' personal route tip: from Hopfgarten over the Penningberg to the Haagalm. Then downhill towards Kelchsau and up the Glantersberg. A physically demanding, but technically not too difficult tour.
Alois' profile
checkMy power place in the Kitzbüheler Alpen ... my local mountain, the Möslalm. For short trips after long days at work and when there's enough time, particularly the Kelchsau region. Both are very suitable all year round.
checkWhat makes my native home special ... there are many beautiful tours in theKitzbüheler Alpen, at all levels of difficulty, suitable for beginners as well as for experts. Due to the not especially high mountains in the Hohe Salve holiday region, tours in nice weather, and (particularly) in bad weather, are very suitable.
checkWhat is my emotional connection to the Kitzbüheler Alpen and why ... I have spent countless hours here in the mountains and always find the perfect place to set myself a challenge and, at the same time, relax.
Both have their appeal. With a mountain bike you train your coordination, while with a racing bike you focus on speed and cover huge distances.
