Tips and Tricks

  • As a beginner start slowly

  • Eat and drink when hiking

  • The correct hiking equipment

  • Planning counts

1. As a beginner you should start slowly

If you overstrain yourself as a beginner, you will quickly lose the fun of hiking. You should not pay attention to how fast or how far you can go, but simply enjoy the hike and take the time you need for it. Small breaks in between are also important.

2. Eat and drink when hiking

No matter how long you are hiking in the mountains, you should always drink enough fluids and eat enough food. You should never start a hike on an empty stomach and always take small snack breaks in between. The body loses a lot of fluid while hiking and you should compensate for this water loss accordingly.

3. The right hiking equipment

You should be particularly careful when it comes to hiking equipment. Choose clothing that suits the weather conditions and always remember that it is usually a bit cooler in the mountains than in the valley. Also make sure that you choose the right hiking boots and, ideally, break them in beforehand. In addition to clothing, it is important to always carry sun protection and rain gear. Blister plasters, a small first aid kit and spare clothes are also indispensable on a hike.

4. Planning counts

You should plan your hike sufficiently to always know where you are going. Digital hiking maps are usually very helpful here, so that you don't go astray. Basically, it is always very important to stay only on marked routes. When planning your hike, don't forget to include the journey to and from the desired route.
