Ski touring Paradise Kelchsau in the Holiday Region Hohe Salve

Kelchsau is a long north-south valley, that branches off at Hopfgarten im Brixental. After the small district of Kelchsau you’ll get to a tollbooth. There, the valley splits to the right into Kurzer Grund and the left into Langer Grund. Many beautiful tours already beckon when making your way into the valley. The ski tours to Lodron ( 1.925m) and on the Schwaigberghorn (1,990m) start in the village centre of Kelchsau. In the Kurzer and in the Langer Grund you’ll find great mountain inns and lodges, which serve as bases and starting points for your ski tours. In the Kurzer Grund you’ll find Wegscheid Inn (1,148m) and New Bamberg Hut (1,761m). The Erla Brennhütte (1,213m) is located in the Langer Grund. The New Bamberg Hut is a touring destination or a waypoint on a tour to the peaks in the Kurzer Grund. It offers accommodation options on the mountain and is a stage finish for the Kitzbüheler Alpen Ski Touring Crossing. From the famous ski touring summits in Kelchsau such as Schneegrubenspitze, Salzachgeier, Schafsiedel etc. you can enjoy wonderful views of the Hohe Tauern with the Grossvenediger and Grossglockner Mountains. The surrounding mountains and valleys covered in deep snow as well as the massif of the Wilder Kaiser look simply stunning from up above.

Windau
Windautal is a north-south valley, which branches off from Westendorf and runs parallel to Kelchsautal Valley. Halfway along the route you’ll find Jagerhäusl Inn (815m). Here is the starting point for tours up to Lodron (1,925m) and Brechhorn (2,037m), in winter Steinberghaus Inn (878m) is end of the line. From there, ski tours also lead up to Gerstinger Joch (2.035m) and Steinbergstein (2,215m). Those who don’t shun somewhat longer, flat sections, will find further rewarding destinations in the head of the valley such as Gamskogel (2,206m) or Geige (2,084m).

Spertental
Spertental Valley, which leads from Kirchberg in Tirol into the romantic village of Aschau, is the third North-South side valley of Brixental. Just after Aschau, the valley splits into the Oberer Grund and the Unterer Grund, where you’ll find a big parking lot. Brechhorn (2,037m) and Gerstinger Joch (2,035m) can be scaled not just from the Windau, but also from the east. Further back in the valley there are many more beautiful peaks.

Auracher Graben
Auracher Graben is very popular with the locals, because it is easy to get to, has reliable snow conditions and is very varied. At the only right-hand turn on the road from Aurach to Auracher Wildlife Park there is a big parking lot (1,045m). From there, follow the forest trail for about 30 minutes until the terrain becomes more open and you have to decide between numerous summits: Gebra (2,057m), Bischof (2.127m), Sonnspitz (2.062m), Staffkogel (2,115m) or Saalkogel (2,006m).

Wilder Kaiser
Some ski tours in the Wilder Kaiser are often possible well into May (Schneekar, Griesner Kar). But even in the middle of winter, there are quite a few options and the craggy rock formations of the Kaiser Mountains fascinate on each and every tour. Starting point for Wilder Kaiser tours are the Wochenbrunnalm, the parking lot below the Graspoint-Niederalm and Kaiserbach Valley (the toll road does not open before spring).
