You can also jet into the valley with fun Mountain Carts and explore the Hilscherpark Forest Playground below. All of that awaits you today – so put on your hiking boots and head up the mountain!
First you take a bus or train from Kirchberg to Kitzbühel (Your Kitzbühel Alps Guest Card is your ticket!).
Today, your hike starts from Hornbahn valley station. You can decide whether you want to hike to Kitzbüheler Horn, take the cable car to the mid-station or let the Horngipfelbahn take you all the way up to the summit.
On foot, you begin the tour from the valley station on the road towards Hagstein. At the farmhouse Grünberg, branch off onto a steep forest path in the direction of Gasthof Hagstein, Adlerhütte and Alpengasthaus. As always, pay attention to the yellow signs, they will show you the way!
Further up you will pass alpine meadows to reach restaurant Adlerhütte and the nearby mid-station of Hornbahn. Well done, you've now been walking for about two hours, and you are halfway to the summit!
At Adlerhütte continue on an alpine trail that soon turns into a forest path. From here follow the signs to the Kitzbüheler Horn. You cross a lot of pastures, and soon you have the striking summit of the Kitzbüheler Horn in sight. The red-white-red transmitter mast up there is a 102 meters high and enables reception of television and radio stations in the area.
Walking along the road you will finally reach the Alpenhaus, from where you continue on your way until you arrive at the entrance of the Alpine Flower Garden. Over 400 varieties of alpine flowers await tob e discovered!
After having marvelled at the sea of flowers, you will reach your next adventure: the Kids Climbing Path. On the last stretch before reaching the summit, your skill and a head for heights are required in order to master the climbing stations and become true summiteers!
After mastering this challenge, you will reach restaurant Horngipfelhaus and the antenna at the top of the Kitzbüheler Horn. Fantastic – you are now at the highest point of the KAT Walk! Isn't the view amazing?
It's all downhill from here and you can follow the path to St. Johann in Tirol in two ways: either courageously over the rope-secured Ludwig-Scheiber-Steig with the impressive rock gate or over the more leisurely, but longer „Hoferschneid“. You have a good chance of seeing marmots along the Hoferschneid. At least you should be able to hear the animals' loud warning whistles. Sure-footedness is also required here, even if the unique view is still so marvellous.
After a good hour from the summit you will reach the mountain station of Harschbichlbahn and you can either take the cable car to St. Johann in Tirol, ride to the mid-station (where the tree top adventure park Kletterwald Hornpark and the Mountain Carts are located) or hike towards the valley with your own physical strength.
To do that, walk past the cable car to restaurant Stanglalm and from there towards restaurant Müllneralm – always keep an eye on the yellow signs! You will soon reach the mid-station of Harschbichlbahn and two more highlights on today's tour. Here you can discover the Hornpark Tree Top Adventure Park with over 100 elements as well slacklines, flying foxes and many more. There is also the option of grabbing a Mountain Cart and whizzing down
into the valley to St. Johann in Tirol at lightning speed – what great fun!
Alternatively Harschbichlbahn will bring you down to St. Johann in Tirol or you can hike to the stage destination.
Once you have reached your destination, the Hilscherpark Forest Playground awaits you brave mountaineers and you have mastered the day with flying colours!
