Event information

This guided hike takes you from Angerberg to the famous pilgrimage site of Mariastein, one of the smallest villages in Austria. After climbing the 150 steps to the Gnaden Chapel in the tower of the pilgrimage church, we’ll be rewarded by the sight of the famous Gothic Madonna which has been attracting believers from far and wide to “Maria am Stein” (Mary on the stone) since the late Middle Ages. Apart from exhibits on display in the castle museum, the unmissable pilgrimage church houses some very remarkable gems: the “Tyrolean Land insignia” with the archduke’s hat and sceptre, given by Archduke Maximilian, Master of the Teutonic Order (around 1600). Torches will light us our way back to our starting point.
