Tour information

The starting point of this tour is from the Krumbach carpark at the far end of the Windau valley. A small charge of €3.00 per car for the use of this road will be collected at the toll plaza just after the Jägerhausl lodge.  With the help of a small footbridge, we cross over the Windauer Ache (river) to begin our hike. After a few minutes walk, again we cross over a small gangplank, follow the trail uphill and arrive at a hunting hut. Keeping to the left (on our return, our round-trip will complete at this point) we continue uphill, staying close to the edge of the woods. After a short time, we arrive at a forest road. Following this road uphill, after approx. 500m we turn to the right at the signpost for “Filzenscharte”. From here on we walk along a nice, at times steep, hiking trail as far as the Schreier Bründl (a well with beautiful, refreshing, cold drinking water). Directly from this well runs the forest road to the Rotwandalm. A short detour to the Filzenscharte is an “absolute must”! This is one of the most beautiful places in the Windau valley and impresses further with an amazing view of the Hohe Tauern. We trek back once again to the Schreier Bründl and follow the forest road to the Rotwandalm. Now you can enjoy traditional self-produced culinary delicacies with wonderful views of the Windau valley!! The descent takes us   via the hiking trail through the Krumbach woods (entrance point behind the dairy buildings). Once at the small hunting hut, we follow the trail already known to us, back to our cars.
