We begin a short descent from the mountain-top Alpenrosenbahn station, turning left at the Höhningscharte in the direction of the Kreuzjöchlsee (lake). At this wonderfully embedded lake, we turn left walking to the end of it and continue to follow the forest road in the direction of the “Wiegalm”. At the Wiegalm, we take a short ascent to the saddle and from there follow the signs pointing left to the Kobingerhütte. The magnificent Harlassanger Chapel, a pilgrimage church, is situated here which was built in 1659 in honour of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. Every year, on July 2nd, parishioners from Westendorf and Brixen make a pilgrimage to this distinguished chapel. We continue along the level path, after the Kobingerhütte, onwards to the “Bärstättalm”. Then we take the forest path which leads to the Gaisberg lift in the valley. The public bus brings us back to Westendorf. (Bus timetable available in the Tourist Information Offices!)
For those who wish to avoid the descent on foot, simple walk from the Bärstättalm to the Gaisberg lift and take the lift down to Kirchberg.
Taking the tour in reverse, 550m of altitude are to be mastered, while those who wish to make the tour more challenging have the possibility of hiking via the “Kreuzweg” (Stations of the Cross route) from Brixen im Thale, to the Brixenbachalm and onwards to the Wiegalm (700m of altitude approx., 5km approx. – duration approx. 2 ½ hours). From there hikers can either take the route to the Gaisberg lift or to the Alpenrosenbahn mountain-top station.
